Review #1 : Colonel E. H. Taylor Four Grain
Firstly, thanks to u/mikeczyz for the sample of this. Personally I'm not big on writing reviews, as I prefer to enjoy what I'm drinking and spend more time / thought enjoying it. However since u/mikeczyz requested a review here's my stab at one.
I'm not going to bother with the details around CHET 4G 's provenance. I'm sure if you're reading this you already know or could just go a quick google.
Tasted in a riedel vintage port glass (similar to a copita) rested for 20 minutes.
Color: Clear honey, bright amber.
Nose: Initial thoughts here are are sweet smells, low ethanol, a hint of orange. It's very reminiscent of a CEHT SiB in armoa, only lighter and with a hint of nuttiness.
Palate: First off the alcohol sting is a bit more prevalent than some of the other CEHTs (excluding SmB). It feels lighter and younger than SiB. This is due to the lighter body of it, where SiB is richer and creamier, this is lighter and more ephemeral. There's a lot of heat going on here for a 100pf. It starts off strong, but transitions in to the mid palate fairly quickly. The mid palate feels a bit empty going to lead into the finish.
Finish: It's very light, it finishes quickly on a bright note and a light tinge of bitterness.
Conclusion: Throughout tasting this I kept trying to find something to compare this to aside from SiB, but despite the 4th grain it exhibits a lot of the same characteristics of it, just younger and more like SmB. I expected something to differentiate from the rest of the CEHT line, but nothing did. I prefer the richness of SiB over this, especially given pricing/availability of both.
Rating: 3/5 - It feels very average, not worth the hunt / secondary.
