White expats in /r/china discuss the positive influence of colonialism and why China should be colonized again

u/tan_guan, a white expat and mod of r/China, had this to say

Colonialism has been a massive net win for humanity.

Does that mean there was nothing bad about it? Obviously not.

But colonialism is part of a process by which billions have been lifted out of grinding poverty and freed from lives remarkable only for their horrific levels of violence and pain.

The rest of the world should be eternally grateful to Europe for bringing them out of a bloody dark abyss.
