Helk, finish the old mechanics you've started working on before implementing new ones
I understand that new (elite) boxes and a new monument are way more exciting than balancing crops, tweaking animal AI, working on benches, etc., but bear with me.
This game is rolling to oblivion fast. Amount of players that's going to play Rust isn't infinite, and most people who were potentially into it, have already tried the game. There is a small influx of fresh blood, but it's not nearly enough to cover for amount of people leaving the game.
Why do people leave? Because the game has a ton of unfinished/half-assed mechanics. Want some examples?
-
Servers lifetime. Most people play on weekly wiped servers, as it's their only hope of a fair play. I do realize that in ideal world there would be no wipes, but we're aeons from that right now, so let's be real: the only way to enjoy Rust right now is to play on a fresh wipe, where everyone's starting equal. But even on a weekly wipe, server is usually dying out by 3rd day -- and I'm talking about high-pop Rustafied servers, as the other ones are dying way faster (usually by the 2nd day there are less than 20% of people playing).
-
New aimcone/recoil. New system is worse than the old one, and both systems are way worse than your average FPS experience.
-
Components. Latest updates made it unnecessarily hard for small groups to play on high-pop servers, since small groups can't have decent weapons now -- roads and monuments are polluted with large clan bases, making rad runs became way too hard. Also, this update nerfed lighthouses/harbors into oblivion, as there are significantly less components spawns now.
-
Animal AI. I can't put it the other way around -- animals are fucking retarded. Bears and wolves are running away from you on full HP, while boars charge you with 10 HP. Not to mention every animal freely running through water, some stones, most of the cliffs and all of the fallen trees/branches.
-
Crops farming. Too complex (can't tell the yield, can't tell the plant's health, can't know if it'll grow more or not), counter-intuitive (sometimes a perfectly green and perfectly grown hemp isn't harvestable), overall it's a lot harder than just roaming around and picking stuff up from the ground. Also, hemp is the only crop viable for farming, other aren't even worth the time spent.

Small stuff that was announced, but never made. Yeah, I'm talking about CONCEPT LIMBO-O-O. Stuff like North/South system, workbenches, NPCs, game progression, making military-grade weapons exclusive to supply drops, making 100% of items skinnable... All of this isn't a thing yet, and we (player base) don't see any roadmap for that.
I absolutely realize that every mechanic of what I've listed is a work in progress. But most of the stuff I've mentioned has been work in progress for months now (AI, component system, aimcone).
TL;DR: finish the old stuff up before working on the new stuff, as this will drastically increase gameplay quality for most players, while making new stuff might not.
