No we don't have to accept anything as a return.
Today I had a man come in with a half eaten box of pre-cooked chicken and a half drunk litre bottle of coke. He asks if he can return them both and provides the receipt.
I ask why he needs to return it, if there was something wrong with it or it didn't taste right we can just trade it for a new one.
"No there's nothing wrong with it I just couldn't finish the whole thing" he replied.
Over the course of the back and forth he demands that any product brought back has to be returned, including products that have been mostly consumed. I refuse and tell him he can't and he's having none of it. Tells me I'm breaking store policy (I'm not) and I'm breaking the law (I'm not)
Eventually he demands to see my manager and she tells him the exact same thing. Confused why a normal looking middle aged man would try to return a half eaten bag of chicken.
Eventually he gives up and asks for my name to be written on the receipt for "online repercussions". Not sure what that means but god bless angry strange gentleman.
PS head management were made aware a complaint was inbound and that they would cover me. :-)
