Ok to leave US bank account open (Citibank) when I move to Europe?
Hello!
I was wondering if there are any downsides to leaving my checking and savings account at Citibank US open with minimal balances when I move to the Netherlands this fall?
For some background, I opened the accounts as a freshman undergrad 4 years ago; I'm an international student so I'm not sure when I'll be back in the US (though I will be at some point, if this has any bearing on being able to close the account.) I want to keep them open with a bit of money at least for some time after I move in case I need to use that credit card in an emergency while I settle down and open a bank account in my new location. Once I disconnect any recurring charges linked to that account such as my phone bill, will there be any extra charges incurred if I leave the account open but don't use it for a few months? And is it possible to close the account remotely (i.e. over the phone from Europe?)
I appreciate any input! Thank you for your time :)
