easiest way for blind person to blog?

Hello r/Blind. I'm a sighted person who's trying to help a blind friend get started making a blog. I installed JAWS on Windows and have spent many hours learning it and trying to use wordpress.com or ghost.org using JAWS. It's been frustrating and seems nearly impossible to use. These sites are fairly visual and I've found that JAWS often reads invisibile elements or describes visible elements in a confusing way. It's very difficult for me to navigate through even a page or two.

So I'm curious, blind bloggers: how do you do it? Should I be using a different screen reader, or a more acccessible blogging site? If so, which ones? Or are my expectations just too high - perhaps the learning curve is just much steeper than I thought? I have a strong technical background and many years of computer experience, by the way.
