Just updated my skype and skypes basic functions are well... not functioning

I just updated my windows 10 skype as i wanted to use it today to call someone. however when calling the person i went to turn my webcam on by clicking skypes webcam button and it flickered on and off several times before turning off so i did it about 7 times until i gave up by this time the person i was calling was asking why my webcam wasnt on i tried to say to her that it was bugging out but guess what my mic wasnt and still isnt working either no matter whether i use a external or internal/built in one. can someone please help me with this because its got to the point where i am literally pulling my own hair out.
