I [m23] think my girlfriend [f23] of 4 months is losing interest in being in a relationship with me.
When my girlfriend and I first became a thing, we were incredible together. Everyone comment on how well we went together. We had zero fights and communicated well for the most part. However my girlfriend has been getting what seems like less affectionate the last two months. She use to send me random messages saying she misses me and got me the occasional gift. She would do small romantic things like writing hearts on fogged up mirrors and posting them to her Snapchat. I would always reciprocate and enjoyed it while expressing how I felt about her. We are long distance (about an hour and a half, which isn't a bad drive for me), and I would stay the night. Around two months ago her dad came into town to visit her and her mother from out of country. They are all originally from another country in the Middle East, that has very traditional beliefs on women and dating. During most of the year he is in their home country on business. She and her mother do not really like her father, and I do not blame them. Once he came, I would only visit during the daytime about once a week. We eventually had our first fight, after which I drove back the next day with flowers and said that I just wanted to make things work with her. Around a week later, we had another dispute when she told me I was too attached and should focus on myself. Previously she had been blinded by love, but now she is more logical. I agreed even though it stung and backed off a little bit.
What she would call a pivotal point in our relationship is when I shaved my beard. I had been anxious on a family trip and wanted change, the easiest solution being to shave. I had tried to call her first to get her opinion on it before hand since I know how much she likes beards, but she didn't respond, so I shaved anyway. She was very upset afterwards, and I tried to talk it through with her and understand why it was so important. I think to her it represented the value of the other's opinions
Eventually, we felt that something was wrong with us, and the affection was gone. Looking back, I feel I still tried to be affectionate, but she never was affectionate as she use to and she didn't appreciate the things I had done for her (or at least she didn't show it like she use to).
We text a good amount but she doesn't really ask about the things I say, and she'll ignore questions I ask. She hasn't posted anything about us on snapchat lately. Little gestures of compassion are gone.
The last week she's been in her home country, and she contacts me daily still but I still feel like she reads through my messages and doesn't care what I have to say. I tried bringing it up and talking to her about communication in a way that was as non-accusational as possible asking her if she could work with me on it, but even still she was threatened and reacted negatively.
I think at this point it is good to just flat out ask her if she is still interested in being in a relationship me. A friend who knows the situation pretty well (from what I told her) has come to the same conclusion that she might not be interested anymore.
What do you guys think? I can provide more info upon request.
tl;dr: I think my gf is losing interest and want to ask her if she is still interested
