Best best for XC and bikepacking?

I'm looking for a bike that I can use as an XC bike and also take on a few bikepacking trips each year. I definitely want a hardtail. The Santa Cruz Chameleon and Jamis Dragonslayer look appealing. Are there any other bikes I should consider?
