Muscle cruiser or sport tourer?

I'm 5'10" 225, and a moderate level of experience. Of the bikes I've owned and ridden my two favorites were an 84 Honda Sabre V65, and a 98 Suzuki Bandit 1200. Both had upright seating positions, were relatively high displacement, had a lot of low end torque, but were significantly higher revving than most V Twins. The Honda because it was a V4, the Bandit because even though it was an inline 4 it was a bored out gsxr1100 engine so the top end was reduced but it had a lot more torque off the line.

Things I want: upright riding position, good power that avoids both the extremely low redline of a vtwin and the need to wait for 9k rpm before the power band kicks in. Decent range would be a plus.

So I'm torn now. I don't want to deal with the maintenance of an 80's bike so another V65 is out. I've considered a third gen Magna, but the tiny tank is a real negative as I'll primarily be commuting. Another Bandit is an option, but I want to explore my options before just getting the same thing again.
