I had a drink last night.

I don't recommend this to people but i want to be honest and admit that sobriety is very hard and can be awfully lonely. Alcohol is so pervasive that you can't help but feel that you're missing out on the shared experiences so many others are having.

After more than a 1k days of total abstinence, I had a drink. I was out with some people after a very long week and had a few sips of a friend's beer. A few hours later I ordered a vodka with lemon and water.

I didn't like it. I drank only half of it. I slept terribly and my stomach hurts today. I was already satisfied with the few sips of beer and wish I hadn't even bothered with the cocktail. It was a waste of money that didn't bring anything to the evening.

Please don't take this as an anecdote of successful moderation; we're all different, with different experiences. It's just my story after going a very long time without a substance i used daily for years. I think I'm just pretty much done with it.

I don't want to say that I've stopped drinking anymore. I think I've reached that point where I don't like drinking.
