Are celebrities/models/singers lying when they say they were teased as kids for their looks, to get sympathy from people like us

Just recently read a quote from a guy who is apparently seen as the most successful male model of all time, he's half black half Chinese and said as a kid he was teased because of his looks, hes literally a black guy with asian eyes and an admittedly perfect face, how the hell would you be teased for that!? I can understand being grotesquely fat or having really bad acne and getting bullied for it, but how do you successfully tease some about their looks when they look better than you do?
