Excercise slightly otm options at expiry

Excersizing otm option at expiry. Why don't we excersize at expiry if we are just down abit.. like mu all those contracts expired with losses to alot of guys in this sub.. but what if you just excersize it. The immediate loss would be pretty similar to selling off the option close to expiry anyway.. and your broker would borrow you the money for the shares and you can basically extend that option for abit longer. If you're expecting it to go up within the month it can't be that expensive in interest for holding the loan from your broker on margin for a few days maybe even weeks.. I mean if you're gonna realize a loss but you really thought mu would get better soon why wouldn't you just excersize and hold the position.. you are all expecting it to go up anyway.. unless you sell because you don't wanna risk the unlimited downfall potential.

Does nobody ever exercise options in here?? Buy and sell only? Is there any upside yo exercising?
