Feeling demotived, how do you show your passion ?
Edit : THANKS a lot people for all the kind/brutal words ! :^) I'm feeling boosted again right now and gonna get another goddamn job while filling like crazy my portfolio !
Long story short : I've been in my company for about 2 years now, mostly doing things like PHP and whatever I'm asked to do, deeply love JS but struggle showing my passion in general... What I think penalizes me during jobs interviews.
Hello fellow devs :-).
So yeah, I'm currently trying to switch job from my "kinda-fullstack-php" job to a "front-end junior position", but I'm struggling a lot.
I'm applying to front-end positions for a bit more than 6 months now, the problem is that most of the time, there are 30 others candidates applying at the same time so it's really hard to make my way through it since I have nothing to show to people :
-
I don't have any personal projects, I don't have many ideas to be honest, my github/gitlab is empty which is a bit dramatic imo. I have no inspiration and whenever I have an idea, It's company-related or I spend too much time worrying about "making things pretty" than "making code pretty", so I give up after some days and pretty much never touch it again.
-
I was thinking about writing articles, I had one idea or two but don't really know how to start, what platform ? People tend to say Medium becomes more and more... erm, shitty ?
-
I can't attend meetups since there are none in my city and the closest ones are 2 hours away from my area. I could write feedbacks and make some articles again for example.
-
Tried to attend hackatons but same prob, we don't have a lot in France, so I was thinking about online hackatons but looks like this is not really a thing.
-
Wanted to attend conferences also but it costs a lot and my boss wont let me go for the NgEurope 2018 for example since we don't use AngularJS at work.
The sadest part is I'm 300% invested at work, I share a lot in my company about what I read, what I experiment at home. The team struggles a bit with JS so I try to perform some workshops with them. Also we have some apps that are total bullshit, ugly and badly coded, so I try to rewrite them in pure JS, but since it's my company's apps, I obviously can't outsource them.
Basically, I feel demotived because I love coding, I love JS, but I can only tell people I love it, I have nothing to PROVE that I love it.
So I would like to know how do YOU guys show your true passion to the world ? And what have you done when you felt demotived ?
Thanks for reading tho :^). <3
