Motive for Angels Hypothesis (Spoilers)
Everything the Angels have been doing up until now is a part of a game they are playing. The angels are not servants of the GoDs, tasked with their instruction and servitude. They invented the role themselves for the little game they are playing, which is who's Universe is more powerful. Because of their ultimate superiority over mortals and even gods, they pretend to be used only for utility, as part of the fun of nurturing each of their universes while simultaneously affecting great change with subtle interactions and actions. They do a lot of this through their Gods of Destruction, who are simply beings that were tasked with the role because of their amazing power, the concept that they affect change through Destruction just an invention by the angels to make things interesting. It makes them seem less responsible although much of their suggestions and words affect how the GoDs behave. They even have a rule system, which goes all the way down from the Gods to the lesser gods, Kami, etc. This makes it more structures, and gives credence to their own roles in the God hierarchy. No idea what the nature of Zen-Oh is, or who created the Universe, and who played a part in that creation (Angels)? But for whatever reasons unknown, Zen-Oh is childlike, and isn't being taught how to behave...very naive and clueless. So kind of like Buu, but even more childlike and utterly ignorant of morality and ethics. Encouraged by the angels to erase Universes and people like they are play things...which of course, is all a part of the game. Not sure what role the Great Priest plays, but as he is their father, he may be just watching his children make sport of this game from the sidelines...being even more superior in power then any of them, he prefers to just watch and enjoy their play. It would explain the general amusement of certain angels when the first Universe disappeared, like Mojito, who had almost no sympathy for his Universe being destroyed. Even Universe 6's Angel muses in a taunting way how her Universe may be next, even Mocking Champa. We all assume because of their general good nature that they must be good...but even Whis seems almost unaffected by the chance of his Universe disappearing. It's amusing at most. So while they might do good actions, even help out on occasions and help guide their own Universes's fighters...they do it selfishly for the game, and no because of any form of compassion. Also a good chance all of these angels have existed for a long time, so even though it seems shocking to the contestants to witness entire universes being erased, to the angels it's just entertaining...and has probably happened many times with many other tournaments in the past. Again, no idea beyond that the history, etc of how they came to be and what role they plan in universe creation, how they relate to Zen-Oh. I think at some point the characters of the show will learn about this...possibly in the final moments. Maybe that many Universes throughout history have been erased like unwanted play things when they perform poorly in past tournaments. Anyway, a fun hypothesis.
