The level of dishonesty in /r/Btc .
Upon coming across yet another straw man argument in r/Btc I decided to hit the person making the claims up for some sources to his claim, the full thread is here:
https://np.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/6nhnvq/another_blockstreamcore_contradiction_they_say/
When asked for sources not only could r/Btc user u/jonald_fyookball not find any sources for his imaginary claim ('They' say 'they' don't believe in SPV) against his imaginary adversary (Blockstream/Core) he tried to pass off one of his articles as a source (the article had no sources either).
Finally, because I would not just believe what he is saying without question he degenerates into just abusing me.
Moral of the story: When reading things on r/Btc treat their 'facts' with trepidation and ask for sources. If all they can do is abuse you back you have your answer as to their honesty.
Straw man attacks are a favored tool in r/Btc and it is a type of informal fallacy that they like to believe. Don't be a fool like them though and actually get sources as to what they are saying. You might cop abuse (as I did) but it shows how weak minded some of these arguments are (and a lot of the users).
