Wanting to Buy a House Without Falling into Haram

Question / Help

Hello all. I'm planning on buying a house in a couple years, ideally. So, I'm starting researching the matter from now so that when I'm ready, if I can, I'll go forward with the house buying.

I'd love to own a place where I can make it my own without having to be beholden to a landlord. My whole life, my family has rented apartments, and I'd finally like to own a home. I'm currently living and working in NYC, so property values are high and rent is high. After consulting calculators, at the rate of rent I'm comfortably paying, it makes the most sense to buy a house.

The issue arises from the need for an Islamic solution. I've read past posts on here, the AMJA fatwa site, and FAQs from the different "Islamic" lending sites, but nothing beats living experience. Has anyone had any experience in halal house buying? What did you do? What advice can you give? Thank you for your time and support.
