New here :)
Hi! I've been lurking for about a week and a half and have finally decided to post. I am 35 years old, and alcohol has been a big part of my life since high school. Long story short, it has gotten worse this past year, starting to drink shots of vodka from the early morning on during the weekends, and hiding it from my husband. He noticed, I made excuses.
Fast forward to May 13, I got a 2nd DUI. Was this enough to stop me? No. I continued to drink because "I don't have a license, so I can't drive anyway".
He found that I was still hiding it last weekend, and dumped out all the alcohol in the house.
I didn't drink from last Saturday till this Friday, when I had 2 glasses of wine with a friend.
During that week, I was scared of withdrawal, but surprisingly didn't have anything except trouble sleeping (thank you, Benadryl!)
I feel much better, physically. Mentally, I miss it. My husband and I used to get drunk together every Friday or Saturday night, so we need to navigate the weekends together. However, the difference is that he would ONLY drink that night with me, and I was having shots and wine (shots in secret, wine in open because it's more socially acceptable on a Tuesday???)
He's supportive, but stressed (we lived abroad in India for 2 years, where I had a similar problem with prescription pain killers, and lied about those too). So he doesn't trust me, but I am hoping he will learn to.
I have been able to get past the cravings and overall I do feel much better, and am looking forward to a healthier future. This sub has helped me a lot, as I am not able to get to AA (no license).
Thanks everyone - I look forward to reading your inspirational posts and replies every day.
