No you can't return soiled clothes

A long time ago I used to work at a well-known discount clothing chain in the UK. I've got quite a few stories from working there but this is my all-time favourite.

I was working the tills when a lady came up with some leggings she wanted to return. She had a receipt so I thought this would be fairly easy. Nah.

The smell from them was pretty gross, I looked through them and yep, they had been "used", and not washed. I told her that we couldn't return them in their current state, and before she could react I ran to the staff toilets and washed myself. I don't think I'll ever feel clean again.

I didn't stick around long enough for her reaction and another staff member took over. Probably the wrong thing to do, just abandon her at the till, but seriously I wasn't sure if I was going to vomit or start crying with laughter. Who do you even deal with that situation???
