[Remorse] I killed a dog in front of a child today.

[Remorse] This happened about thirty minutes ago. I was driving down the road at the speed limit (55). My drug addict neighbors down the road were all standing outside talking, two adult males, a kid, and an adult female. I didn't see the dog, it was a small Chihuahua, it ran out super fast right in front of me before I could slow down. I slammed on breaks but it still went under my front and back left tires. I felt the bump. I stopped and got out of the car and the dog was on its back its legs looked broken and it was crying a lot and one of the guys went and took it away and the kid started crying and the mom started cussing and yelling at me "you were going too fast what if it had been a kid" and took the kid inside and I tried to give the other guy all the money in my purse (about 70 dollars) for a possible vet visit but he wouldn't take it and just told me to go on it wasn't my fault I couldn't have stopped and I drove home and Sorry this is so discombobulated I'm still really shaken I feel so awful I don't even like dogs at ALL but right in front of the kid and I'm so sorry.
