Where to start?

Not sure if this is allowed, but I need advice! My girlfriend and I (we are two ladies) are in the beginning stages of looking at rings. I tried on a few rings at a larger chain store, all around $5k but we've decided our budget is $1k. I'm totally fine with this because the actual carat doesn't matter to me, it's more about the overall look. However, I have no idea where to go from here. I'm open to so many options (tiny diamonds, other stones, unique settings, trendy halo settings...) that it's hard to narrow it down and know where to look first. We're also not at a point where we are ready to actually purchase, so places like outlets are tough since there's only one of each ring. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
