Will a USB Audio Interface give me any noise recording guitars and mics?

As the title suggests, I've been recording for a while with a behringer xenyx 502, obviously it doesn't have a pre-amp so guitars don't record well and I get noise with it a fair bit, it's not broadband noise either as it fills the entire frequency spectrum. I've been told i wouldn't get noise (or anywhere near as much) if I used a USB audio interface, is this true? I really need a good (and preferably budget) way of recording guitars and Mics into my laptop without having to fiddle for ages with gating to just ruin my sound. I'm looking at a Behringer UMC22 at the moment, thanks in advance.
