Axle click tsb a must?

Just wondering but is the axle click tsb job something that can cause functional problems if not done?

Mine started to click more often in the summer but if it doesnt affect the drivability I don't mind the noise. Just dont want this to bite me in the ass later and have the whole axle replaced.
