Teaching Reflection

Yesterday I taught at the Durango Detention Center along with, Katie and Derek. During this session we taught the topic of Juvenile expungement and how the process works in Arizona. We explained the process of destruction of records and receiving a set a side. Also restoration of civil rights and what needs to be done in order to restore voting rights. The first group with the younger kids was a little distracted at first but we pulled them into the discussion. The older groups were attentive and eager to receive the information, and asked lots of questions on the topic. Both of my co-teachers did a great job of handling the material and answering the student’s questions. Later, that day I finished the shift with Daryl. We taught the same lesson to the other units. The unit seemed to be excited to receive the message on expungement. The students did a great job of following their “ACES” during the discussions. Therefore, I enjoyed my time at the Durango at the detention center.
