Removing baseboard molding set into hardwood floor
I need to remove baseboard molding throughout my house. I'm replacing it with new because it has lead paint on it, but first I need to remove it. The house is about 100 years old with plaster walls and the molding is solid wood.
Using a set of pry bars, I was able to get some of it off - the top ~6-7 inches, but the bottom wasn't budging. I looked closer and it appears as though the molding was installed and then the hardwood was placed around it, so the molding is set down into the floor about 1/2" - 1". It's hard to tell how deep it sets.
I rented a jamb saw just to try and see if that would work and it's made the job easier, although I'm having to set the saw blade a little taller than flush because the saw marked up my floor in one spot before I noticed the problem. I also know that sawing the molding isn't ideal because of the lead dust. I've researched the precautions I need to take as far as the lead dust go.
Any other advice for removing trim like this? The only good point so far seems to be that the plaster is almost rock-like and in the ~4 foot section that I worked on as a test, it fared pretty well.
