NBA2K17 won't launch for PC (Steam)

So my friend shared his 2k17 with me on Steam a while ago, and I've been playing it with no issues, up until now. Whenever I click "Play" it brings up a text box saying "preparing to launch" like with any other steam game, except when the box disappears, the game does not load. I notice that the sidebar with all of the games says running next to 2k17, and as soon as it says syncing, it crashes. I have tried various methods such as reinstalling the game and restarting my computer. I have even tried deleting the SYNC.BIN file but none of these methods have worked. I was hoping someone could provide any insight on my situation.
