Is it just me or is military compensation (O side) absolutely obscene?

Looking at the pay scales, along with twenty year retirements, BAH, etc.

Am I missing something here or is being a military officer one of the best compensated careers anyone can go into?

EDIT: I'm still rather junior in the workforce, but are 60+ hour workweeks not the norm for anyone pushing for upper management positions anyway?
