2 frameworks sharing the same db

I know this is a rather odd question, but lets say we have some sort of an application that has been built in some kind of CMS fashion using Ruby on Rails where we created different models with their relations and there is an admin panel where you can create instances of these models and save them in the db.

Now lets say we need to build a highly responsive API as this app will scale largely so definitely node.js would outperform Rails if it was used to build the API, so can we use the same db for the node.js if we successfully build the same models with the same relations without having to do any further adjustments
