Stop blaming PayPal for your frozen assets you lazy dumb dumbs.

So tired of seeing rants about someone losing their account or having their minimum holdings increased on PayPal "for no reason". They have reasons, but you lazy, lazy store owners don't bother to understand them.

I get your perspective: you're just a guy trying to run a business and customers want PayPal. They ask for a shit ton of money to hold and you have a great relationship. Over time you assume they love you and are absolutely floored when they "randomly" shut you down.

Here's their reality: they're the biggest (or close to it) processor of easy online payments in the world. They don't have the time, energy, or inclination to even know who you are. You are one account among MANY and they don't need your business.

Here's what they care about: how much money are you accepting, what are you doing to minimize fraud, and what's the likelihood you will one day get hacked and have millions stolen via PayPal?

  1. If you're capturing funds for orders immediately and providing your service afterward as part of a smooth onboarding process, YOU ARE CONSIDERED HIGH RISK. It doesn't matter if you've been a loyal account holder for 20+ years; you have an obvious point of attack that may one day cost PayPal more than you ever gave them in fees. Unless you're a standard retail store who waits to capture funds until a series of checks are completed, you should assume PayPal DOES NOT TRUST YOU.

  2. They don't give a shit about how your business works. You personally may believe you are secure, you personally verify all orders, that you'd never get hacked, etc. and there is NO WAY for PayPal to verify this. They're not going to hire account managers to manually check your code. It makes no sense financially to take your word for it when they can simply treat you as a high risk account.

  3. All it takes is ONE MISTAKE for PayPal to get fucked because of your business. They're great because they offer immediate access to funds after a transaction and this means a single hacked store or shady customer can hose them for millions that can't be recovered.

TL:DR; PayPal doesn't trust you, never will trust you, and stop acting shocked when they freeze you after nine years because you did something shady or stopped paying attention to how your business is perceived from a security standpoint.
