Metal Songwriting Tips and Experiences from the Fine People in r/metalmusicians

I have been trying to write off my 'old' musical ideas for what seems like ages, but I have yet to complete a full song. I have been tracking guitar and bass from my Peavey VIP 3 and use EZDrummer 2 to get my ideas up from the floor. Every time I think I am going somewhere with my composition, I get stuck or don't have conviction in my ideas to keep them going. I am working as hard as I can on my composition skills and am trying to write lyrics to my music and would appreciate some tips and experiences from other musicians on this subreddit. Did any of you have similar experiences, and if so, how did you succeed past them?
