Where to go for a B'day party in West L.A.?

I'm taking 8 old people to to my birthday party on 8/9.

I reserved at Jean-George, but I finally saw the menu, and, instead of the French food I expected, it looks like "LA's greatest hits" - sushi, pizza, hamburger, steak, blah, blah.

So I'm thinking about canceling, maybe going to Melisse instead.

Do any of you have suggestions for an upscale place for great food in the area West of Beverly hills?
