headcollar v harness

I use a gentle leader on my dog. She is quite strong and she gets crazy if she sees ( or thinks she sees a cat), so it is hard to control her. Dogs she isn't too bad, the only exception is my nearby neighbours dog who goes nuts at her and so she can get a little reactive but I am working on her ignoring this. She doesn't really like the gentle leader and is often rubbing her head on my leg. Some people say front clip harnesses a better for lunging, strong dogs. What are your thoughts on this? And do you ever wean your dog off the headcollar/harness?
