Is it true that root beer is widely hated?

On r/askreddit someone asked a question about what the "root beer" of other countries are, as in something that people who live there love but everyone else hates. I jad no idea root beer might be an issue.

For your information root beer is not a beer its made from (supposed to be) sassafras and is a soft drink
