Good day fellow vapers, today I’m going to be reviewing the Fusion II by Vivakita Product link here.

INTRO

The Fusion II at its core is a beginner’s device. It is designed well in this regard from the internal battery, to the 0.5” diameter display, to the press-fit coils, providing a nice all-in-one style setup. Plus the compactness is good for on-the-go.

The Fusion II is an internal 2100mah starter kit, with a maximum output of 50w.

OVERVIEW

To get into this device there is a child-proof lock. It is a little bit tricky to work with but it is a very similar style of lock to liquid medicine bottles. Basically, you need to push down and twist on the adjustable airflow ring at the top of the device. It is located right below the drip tip section, which happens to cater to any 510 drip tip the user prefers, and it will need to be kept pushed down to unscrew it all the way. It is a pretty cool idea and additional safety is never frowned upon in my book. The way this works is that the 360 degree rotating airflow ring has teeth than can fit into the chamber of the atty. Once it is in place, it grips the chamber of the atty and it can be screwed off.

Now when the user pulls out the atty they’ll notice they are pulling out the coil as well. The coil is press-fitted into the chamber section and is easy to remove and replace. To get the vapor, the air travels from the top airflow, down into the chamber, and goes back up the smaller tube with the vapor. At 50w with the airflow half closed the flavor was pretty good for a top airflow style. I would classify it as an in-between mouth-to-lung and direct-to-lung vape. Not super restricted for a nice throat hit, and no hefty airflow for a great lung hit. While the top airflow design is historically known for poor flavor, the small chamber and smaller air tube adds to the density of the vape and increases the flavor.

The opening from where the atty was removed from is not only the tank but also the connection. The coils are flat at the end, so that when it is in the chamber and screwed back into the tank it will contact the base and create the connection. Since ejuice is not conductive, it seems like a pretty neat idea.

Speaking of juice, to refill the user needs to drip straight into the tank with the atty removed. On the side of the mod there will be a max. and a min. fill line. It may not look like much but when the atty is screwed back in it will displace the juice and push it well up the sides of the tank. Unfortunately, the maximum capacity is only 2ml, and after refilling a little bit of gurgle was noticed each time but it was usually cleared out in 1-2 vapes.

The display is located on the top and is a 0.5” diameter display. 5 clicks on, 5 clicks off and a +/- button to adjust wattage to the users desired level in whole increments. Finally, holding both + and – buttons will rotate the screen 180 degrees. Very basic, very simple, and perfect for beginners.

CONCLUSION

I had a tough time with this device straight from the start. Everything was simple, no issues with getting everything ready to go, then I get the dreaded atomizer short message when I try to fire. From tightening the atty to replacing the coil, I tried to fix but the message never went fully away. So I dumped out the juice, gave everything a solid wipe down to clear out any debris that may have ended up in there from my initial cleaning, inspected the atty, the coil and the well, and then put everything back together.

This time around, I wasn’t going to waste too much juice if it didn’t work. So I filled it right above the minimum fill line, screwed on the atty nice and tight, fired the mod and it worked! Angels fell from the sky and the halleluiah choir stated playing and all was well… or so I thought. I proceeded to unscrew the atty and fill it up to the maximum juice line, screw back on the atty, fired, and the damn atomizer short message came back up. It worked perfectly before, so what was the issue? So I recreated the situation with the minimum about of juice and it worked! Filled it up to the maximum level and it gave the short message! In addition, I noticed that the ohm readings were changing very frequently between 0.24-0.28ohms. Sometimes it would even show a different reading each vape for 3-4 consecutive drags. So I dissected one of the coils and I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.

During this frustrating experience, I’d been reporting my findings to Vivakita who was very responsive. After several talks and fact sharing, Vivakita determined that it could be a small circuit defect in the protection circuit module by the battery. Once I heard that, I then proceeded to take apart the device and I did find some residue behind the back of the USB and inspected the connection. I did notice what appeared to be a deep scratch in the connection but could not think of any way to remedy. So I cleaned up the residue as best I could and cleaned the connection and put it back together. And what do you know; I’ve not been having any short messages since! Even filling the tank up right up to the max fill line!

To this day can’t understand why the amount of juice (in the designated safe amount levels, no-less) has so much of an impact. At the end of the day, the device ended up being dubbed defective but, through some tinkering I was able to get it to work much better. However, I’m still noticing the fluctuations with the ohms. I was impressed with Vivakita’s response time and their overall willingness to understand that the problem wasn’t from user error but was internal. They have passed my findings to their engineers who will hopefully use it.

After I got the mod to work more reliably, it was a nice travel buddy. Using at 50w would always last me the entire time I was out but, if it was your main device, you would need to recharge it at least once per day (again at 50w use). The good thing is that it quickly charges from low battery to max charge in a couple of hours. The biggest gripe (ignoring the atty short issue entirely) was the amount of times I need to refill it. 2ml is the max capacity amount and vaping at 50w resulted in way too many times I had to stop to refill. That being said, this is a device that is catered to beginners and a beginner is not going to jump out of the gate at 50w.

PROS

  • The overall design is very convenient for beginners. Compact size, internal battery, press-fit coils, easily adjustable wattage, etc..

  • 510 drip tip compatible

  • Easy to use and gives proper safety info to beginners, including how to prime the coils

  • Additional child lock features

  • Does not leak. Left it on its side for 30m with no issues. Perfect for on the go in your pocket or purse.

CONS

  • 2ml tank capacity

  • Atomizer short issue

  • Subjective and not a con for a true beginner- No rebuild option and no temperature control option

WOULD I RECOMMEND?

I’m sure it is a nice starter kit for beginners, but due to my experiences with it I have to give this one a single thumb down. Especially since it came with, what appears to be a hand stamped, quality control card that notified me that it was inspected and it was A-OK. However, after I got the device working better it was a greatly improved experience.
