An Impossibility

I posted this once before but didn't receive any feedback so I hope it's alright to try again.

An Impossibility

If we had just known to take the time to look around
it turns out
that there wasn't a favorable condition to be found
for miles
but if you are concrete
then I am a chance weed
just thankful for a crack in your armor
and the tenacity to not let go
in a small corner of a town
by the sea
where forgotten and unlikely
we were allowed to grow

No one writes books about this
two people occupying the same space
with only the occasional glance
no electricity
no locked eyes
we arrived at each other slowly
not like particles colliding
but a long walk in a familiar place
where you stop to glance around
and suddenly realize how lush and green it all is
and it's humid
and both hands are clenched

like a bird that returns home year after year
just a tug inside
and then flight

Random nights of rough touches
blind hands
we each could have been any
body
but then again
and again
I've heard it said that five times is a habit
but I'll admit that in our timeline
I don't know when you started to smooth me out
like a fold in the covers
now it's years later and I sleep just as well alone
because your presence in the room drives me
to distraction
I am a child
not yet taught to keep their hands to themselves

Here are some words
improbable, inevitable
you are a collection of
customs, principles, routines
I slipped into your periphery
and while there was work that remained
nails in the door to be pried
essentially
I was as good as home

Listen closely
you've got your disbeliefs
but God is a tailor
He looks down at us and laughs
then reaches out to give us another day together
even you have to admit
this feels
divine
