Thoughts on T-Mobile One Plan.

I've been a First user since day one but am finding to hard to justify the on going cost of phones as they reach their planned obsoletance. I started with a 5X and received the Nexus boot loop of death and both Google and LG refused to placed. Ok fine, I bought the 6P, after a year, bam NBLD (Nexus boot loop of Death) Project Fi and LG refuse to fix. Ok fine. I buy a Pixle....phone reboots randomly. (Is this the begining of another failed phone)

Im at my last wind and want to switch carries to the T-Mobile plan $40 mo for 4 users. I have 4 Project Fi users that are also fed up with poor service and poor quality control phones. We figure paying $40 for unlimited from a well known carrier with more options is a no brainer.

Has anyone made the switch from PF to T-Mobile One Plan?

$70 if you only have one line. Not worth it for me.

If they ever off their hookup offer of 20% off for life, $56 is much easier to swallow.

$50 + some added features with the 10GB LTE simple choice plan, much better deal.

I switched from fi to T-Mobile about six months ago. I was using about a gig a month and all was great. But, I was constantly worrying about my data usage. It got to the point where I wondered if it was even worth having a smartphone at all. I switched to T-Mobile and now I use about 6 gigs a month and I never have to worry about it.

If you like to use data, or feel restricted to using data when you have Fi, then Fi is not catered to your kind of demographic. Fi is for light data users (<2 GB/month).

Yeah, I totally get that and I was that type of user when I signed. However, things changed and I wasn't able to conserve data as much. Ultimately, like you said, if you're a light user it's awesome. If you use more than a few gb a month you're better off elsewhere

Can I ask you how you end up using 6GB in a month? Do you (and other people) stream music everyday on the commute to work/home, watch videos not on wifi, or do some other crazy thing? The only time of day I am not connected to wifi is the car ride to and from work.

I do stream music everyday now that I can. Usually for an hour or so at the gym or while I'm running.

I drive for a living and my car has an Android Auto head unit. So I use data for maps and music.

Yea, I feel like it's getting harder and harder to conserve data. I might pay off the balance on my phone and move. The other thing though is coverage. Where I work is completely fine, but it's spotty at home. Only service with full coverage there is Verizon, and I don't like them. I'm thinking if finding a way to make my phone only use TMobile towers and see how it works out before I make the switch.

You can use the signal spy app to switch to the T-Mobile network and check their coverage.

I'm in the same boat. It's not that I use tons of data now (around 5 gb) but now I'm just not worrying, that was the worst part if Fi for me. I don't like calculating how much a YouTube video is going to cost me.

I just started the switching process to come back to Fi after 4 months of T-Mobile. I used about 5 gigs per month so I was pretty much paying what I'd be paying for Fi ($70) except I couldn't roam on any of the networks that Fi works on.

I recently switched from Fi to T-Mobile One Plan. Wifi calling actually works! No need to invoke airplane mode now lol. The call quality is amazing too. VolLTE is amazing.

Yes. I used fi for my primary and had sim only for the kids. I turned on hard caps on their phones to 1gig. My bill would be around 60-70 but I always felt like I had to worry. I hopped on the OnePlus deal a few months ago and now have three lines for $100, however I rarely go over 2 gig the kids will use like 20. So with kickback my bill goes to 80 or 90 every month.

I still use my Nexus 6p and one kid uses Nexus 6 and another a Nexus 5x. All rommed with pure Nexus and nary a problem.

The kids love it because Snapchat and all that other crap uses data like crazy and now I don't have to worry a bit.

I also hated the Sprint TMobile crappy handover. Not missing that TMobile coverage has gotten way better.

Also I had a serious beef with dumbing down voice so TMobile also has digits which is very nice and also free but I still use voice now in it's full glory.

So it was a lab experiment but it sucks compared to the other offers out there today.

And I have travelled to 15 countries not a problem. The 256 is a little ghetto but it gets the job done and I can VoIP via WhatsApp no problem.

Do you have 4 users or just yourself? And, what's the expected data use in each of the two scenarios? Are the other advantages of Project Fi important such as the ability to use the three carriers, including roaming situations to Verizon, international travel, pay only for the data you use, etc.? Answering these questions and comparing what you get with T-Mobile would help you decide to make a switch.
