First audio set up: Onyko TX-NR676 & B&W 685?

I am finally taking the leap and getting some more serious equipment to listen to music. My primarily interest is listening to music (jazz, big band, folk rock, folk metal, bluegrass, opera, classical, dance ... ) and I want it to sound GOOD. Of course I do, or I wouldn't be here. Watching movies with better sound is just a side benefit.

I got a great deal yesterday on a new Onkyo TX-NR676 and really loved some B&W 685 speakers I listened to last night. I know that Onkyo receiver isn't top-of-the-line, and the speakers are much nicer. My question is if these are a good (or bad) match? Do you usually spend so much more on your primary speakers then the receiver or is that a mistake which will affect the sound quality?
