[CHAT] Help me, I have no idea what I'm doing

CHAT

A while ago I made a thread about pixel art and talked about how that's why I wanted to get into this hobby, so I sent off for a kit to start me off, what was supposed to be a starter kit (well I searched starter kit anyway). So the design was choice was AK120, Anchor Cat and Bea.

Long story short, I have no idea what I'm doing. I feel like professor farmsworth from Futurama has pushed all these items in my arms and gone "Off you go!". I forgot what episode he says that in, but anyway, I don't understand what the majority of the stuff is and I have no confidence in trying as I've never done anything this big before since summer school which was more than 10 years ago.

First of all, can someone tell me what this is?, why it's tied together with a rubber band at the end, and has two numbers side by side? One side looks like it has the official colour codes (I only know that because I browsed the DMC website earlier today) and the other just has random numbers from 1 to 6?

The instructions mention french knots and back-stitching too, which has taken me by surprise because I wasn't expecting to do them. Are they easy to handle?

I'm really feeling lost here. I know it's not because I'm dumb or something, because that's not how intelligence works, I just need to know a bit more about how this works so I feel confident enough to actually make a start. Is there a video of someone doing a similar pre-packaged design? I don't even know how to wrap the thread round the needle guys.
