How bad is residential street parking really?

Looking at an apartment in the city and it's great but it doesn't have off street parking. The street parking doesn't alternate sides though. Is the parking a big deal or no? My concern would be winter. Do cars get stuck often? I've only lived in the suburbs so sorry if this is a dumb question!
