Thinking about moving out of Denver for music- would it be worth it?

Hi! So, I'm an aspiring musician currently living in Denver. Right now I'm playing guitar with a gothic rock/shoegaze group. The year I've been with this band has been a really good experience- I've grown a ton as a musician and I've been regularly gigging for the first time ever- but I've started to wonder if the Denver scene is the best place for me to be.

We do have plenty of creative bands, but music isn't really part of the culture out here- it's more about beer and outdoorsy stuff. And there is definitely some support for artists in the community in the form of stuff like the UMS. The thing is, the scene here seems to tend towards folk, bluegrass and middle-of-the-road indie rock, none of which I find inspiring. It's hard to find much that feels fresh or challenging and I feel like I could grow a lot more as an artist in a scene that took more chances. On top of that, Denver's a little isolated. You have to drive around six to eight hours to reach any major city, so it's tricky to do something like organize a short tour.

Now, all that being said, I've only been gigging seriously for about a year- I might've just not explored the local scene enough. Still, though, the idea of moving out to somewhere with a more exciting scene- like LA or NYC- is really tempting. I'm a software developer, so paying the bills isn't much of an issue for me. I'd just really like to be in the kind of environment where I can meet other musicians making exciting music- stuff that will challenge me to up my game.

So, yeah, would I possibly be better off in a more musical city? Am I not giving Denver enough credit? Does anyone have experiences of moving to pursue music? Is there any place anyone's moved to that has the kind of forward-thinking scene I'm looking for?

Thank you!

TL;DR - Denver doesn't feel inspiring as a musician. Should I move someplace with a bigger scene?
