13-15", $2000 Budget for travelling US Student

Valid Form
  • Total budget and country of purchase: $2000, USA, but I'd be willing to spend ~2300 if I found an absolutely perfect laptop for me.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life is a must, I'm in class throughout the mornings and early afternoon.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Thin and light are very important, I don't want to be lugging around some monster to classes and on planes.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows preferably, but I have no qualms with using Mac OS

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Would prefer a laptop in the 13-15 inch range, definitely nothing bigger than 15.3 though.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light video editing along with some music production. Will occasionally game on it when I'm away from home. Would mainly use Sony Vegas 14, and a mixture of ableton and FL studio

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? The only things I would really like to run consistently @60fps are Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League, while occasionally playing games like Overwatch, For Honor, and some emulated PS2 games.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? For me, build quality is a must. I will be using a wireless mouse for the most part, so touchpad isn't of the utmost importance, but it would be nice to have a good one when needed. Color accurate screen is also a plus.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Really and truly I'm just looking for something that'll last the full college day and occasionally do some gaming on, mainly during the holidays when I'm away from my desktop visiting family and such. Thanks for any suggestions!
