Can't wait for their Dunkirk review
(sorry, I know it's controversial but I feel alone in disliking the movie for some reason and wanted to share my fresh feelings on it! )
I think It did not showed either the scale of war or emotion. 3 timelines were totally not needed. I don't even think it delivered on historical part.
300k soldiers? Where? those few lines of soldiers on the beach? Germans pushing the frontline? Yes, I've heard about this in history class but show at least a glimpse. Why am I supposed to be sad? because plane took down 7 random soldiers who did not even said a word before they died?
I understand it was supposed to be artistic showing of this part of history. But I did not got emotional with any of the characters(well the father characters was OK). So if I am suppose to get a feel of struggle and brutality of war... then it also did not delivered. After watching the movie only, I don't know how many people died on that beach. A few and few others on boats.
I felt like it was a movie for geek older historians who were reading about this and know this history part very well, so they can fill the huge gaps themselves.
I loved the visuals and angles but it was lacking in scale or character. Overall I feel very frustrated and disappointed with the movie.
tl;dr It was totally a Godzilla 2014 of war movies for me a.k.a "godzilla fights there", says voice over the radio, but let's focus on this uninteresting parts.
Compare it to this.. I think better portrayal of Dunkirk. Fantastic scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QijbOCvunfU
