Can someone suggest me a romance novel?

I recently watched the movie Belle and nearly swooned out of my chair when John Davinier screamed his love for Belle. It made me think about how little of the romance genre I have explored.

I don't have many aversions besides incredibly cheesy stuff. I tried 50 Shades of Grey and cringed so bad I couldn't finish it. (Sorry to all the fans!) I prefer something that doesn't take place in modern times but i'm open minded.

I enjoyed Jane Eyre (I guess not traditionally romance), Pride and Prejudice, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Great Gatsby and Love in the Time of Cholera.
