Trying to build a minimalist wardrobe, but have very specific needs
Hello, ffa! I'm here to ask your advice, but first, here's a bit about me:
I lurk in this sub but I am by no means a fashionable person. I much prefer comfort/function to form. However, I am also changing careers and want to dress more like a grown up.
I'm working on building a wardrobe with classic, timeless pieces that are also going to last, well, as close to forever as possible. I'm ok with dressing extremely boring. I'm migrating toward blacks, greys and whites, maybe some navy in there. But I don't need fancy or patterns.
The thing is, I have two major needs when it comes to deciding on staples to buy:
- I am 5'6, but I have the torso of a much taller person. Most of the shirts I pass down to my friends, they wear as dresses. I've taken to wearing camis under everything to avoid showing any unwanted skin, but really I'd just love to find some classic stuff that I don't have to tug down or adjust constantly.
Brands like LL Bean have some classic items and obviously are pretty high quality, but I find that most of their styles are wider and shorter than usual.
I did order a 'vintage tee' in long from the gap and I love it! I'll definitely order more although it isn't the softest material. Which leads me to:
- I have extremely sensitive skin, possible sensory processing issues. I buy the softest stuff I can but generally that stuff isn't built to last. I cut the tags out of most things I wear just because I can't stand them. I can't wear sweaters next to my skin at all. I end up being so itchy I can't concentrate. I buy a lot of modal and jersey knit stuff but they pill and snag.
What kinds of materials should I be looking for?
TL/DR: I need comfortable long lasting classics, and I need styles that are longer on top. I will gladly take pretty much any advice you can give me. Thank you!
