Can I prevent a sub-reddit from appearing?

I use my front page most of the time, but on slow days I occasionally look thru r/popular or r/all. There are popular subs that repeatedly show up there that do not interest me at all.

TL;DR: Is there an /ignore function for subs, and if not, why?
