How do I get Text Messages on Gear S2 from Pixel XL?

I can't get notifications from Text Messages and when I got to manage notifications in the Gear app on my phone it just has a pop up message that says "To receive notifications on your gear tap turn on, then turn on Samsung Gear."

Which is very vague.
