First Crash (at fault) - The Future
Completely my fault, I already know, but I basically tapped someones bumper. Was under 10mph, probably close to 5, just didn't realize they stopped. I asked the lady to pay out of pocket pretty much immediately, she said no. There was no visible damage at all to her car. I didn't even see any major scratches on the bumper but she insisted there was damage I couldn't see. When the police officer came, he let her leave before me so I never was able to get her information from her. I also wasn't thinking straight so didn't get pictures of her car.
I got a ticked for following too closely. Again, I know this is my fault. According to my dad, my insurance rates will basically double. Reading on here, that seems to be fairly likely. I don't think that I really have any ground to fight the ticket. It was my fault and really don't see anyway it turns in my favor.
I was paying for half of my insurance (~$1000 per year) and my parents were helping with the other half. Now, I'm not sure that driving is an option at all for me anymore.
I can't make much more money than I do. This summer I'll have made ~$2000. I can't work in the school year due to athletics and academics (I have a big commitment to both) so I really don't have much more to spend.
Is there anything at all I can do? When I go to college at 18, how will driving work for me? If I can't drive I'd probably have to live on campus or near campus if I go where I plan to go instate which is going to be probably just as expensive as insurance.
Thanks so much for the help in advanced. I know I'm an idiot, no need to tell me.
