Why are Beta sign ups disabled?

According to the site, Beta sign ups are disabled but it doesn't seem to say why (or I somehow completely missed it). I checked both that page and the FAQ it links to but neither seem to say why.

I was hoping to sign up for the Beta and begin learning in the next couple weeks. Does the Beta feature a revamped curriculum to coincide with the challenges, or just new challenges with the same learning content?
