Monitor no longer shows picture. Get "out of range" message

Windows 10 gtx 1060 6gb

So a few days ago I reset my pc for something but after that the screen would just show an out of range error message no matter what I did it just wouldn't work again

(it has been working perfectly for the past year or so with no issues at all before the reset)

which from reading about happens due to resolution and/or refresh rate I have used another tv and it works fine on that and I have used another monitor but that does not work either.

unplugging or disabling the 1060 and using the hdmi port on my mobo makes things work on all 3.

Can anyone think of what to do? The tv which makes 1060 works on is the main tv in the living room so just using that isn't possible. Also could it be a problem with hdmi 2.0 vs 1.4? The 2 other monitors are quite old/cheap brands.
