iOS loses internet when moving from Eero to Eero?

I just got some gen 2 Eeros. I love the idea, but they seem finicky to me so far as far as picking the closest eero to connect the client to. So I started walking around the house with my iPad with the Eero app open to see if I could see the iPad move from one Eero to another.

When I got far enough away from the main Eero, the app gave me the "We're having trouble connecting to the Internet." message. Wifi was still connected, but the Internet was definitely not working. Safari couldn't load any pages at that point.

That thread also pointed to a fix that was coming via update, but there was never any confirmation. So... anyone else experience this problem? I am using the iOS11 beta, so I'm wondering if that's a factor.
